Children of highly educated parents dominate municipal cultural schools

Between 2018 and 2024, there have been only small changes, according to new statistics from the Swedish Arts Council.

Children with a foreign background and children from poorer socio-economic backgrounds continue to be underrepresented.

Almost 75 percent of all municipalities had a queue for the cultural school in 2024. Most - 66 percent - of the children and young people who queued did so without already participating in any other course.

In 2024, approximately 190,000 people participated in the cultural school's semester courses, which is approximately the same number as in previous years.

13 percent of municipalities had a free cultural school in 2024.
