Additionally, three civilians and four suspected gang members were also killed.

The attack occurred in a gang-controlled slum area in the city and a suspected gang leader is said to have been the target, according to the victims' relatives and representatives of RNDDH to the news agency AP on Monday.

The organization RNDDH, which monitors human rights in the country, accuses the local police of being behind the attack. According to the organization, the suspected gang leader was planning his birthday celebration at the site of the attack.

AP has contacted a police spokesperson in Haiti who has not yet returned.

Haiti is heavily affected by violent crime and large parts of the country are controlled by armed gangs.
