The police were called just before 3 p.m. to a farm in the southern part of Svenljunga municipality after a child was involved in an accident with a tractor. The child was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter but died from his injuries.
"From everything I have been able to deduce so far, most of it points to this being a tragic accident," says police spokesman Adam Isaksson Samara.
The police have opened a preliminary investigation into negligence in traffic and causing death.
It is unclear what caused the accident. The tractor has been seized by police.
