The incident, which occurred last year, has been investigated by the hospital and reported to the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) as a serious health care injury.
According to the hospital's investigation, the woman should have been medically assessed before giving birth. The delivery should also have been upgraded to high-risk, as several risk factors had been added. The time to cesarean section should also have been shorter.
It was also not possible to reach the doctor on call, as the phone signal within the building was too weak.
In the end, an emergency caesarean section was performed. The baby had suffered from severe hypoxia and died a few days later. During the procedure, the woman suffered from severe bleeding. This resulted in her uterus being surgically removed.
Ivo has assessed that the hospital, which has also introduced new procedures, has investigated the incident sufficiently and taken sufficient measures.
