The alarm came in at 23.42 on Sunday and when the rescue service arrived at the scene, the row house was burning heavily.
Our assessment is that something has exploded inside the row house, we don't know what at present, and that it then started burning, says Anna Westberg, press spokesperson at the Stockholm police.
The rescue service managed to limit the fire to the residence and prevent it from spreading to other apartments in the row house and by 1.30 am the fire was extinguished.
The actual residence is severely fire-damaged, says Anna Westberg.
Intentional explosion
According to information from the rescue service, a man and a woman with two minor children live in the apartment. On Monday evening, Karolinska University Hospital told TT that the woman and one of the children are being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A young mother in the area tells TT that she heard the explosion.
A bang, then it went fast. The fire trucks came immediately, she says.
Another person targeted
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into gross general endangerment and gross crime regarding fire-hazardous and explosive materials. The theory is that the explosion in the home was caused intentionally.
Yes, since we are classifying it as gross general endangerment, that's what we think, said Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson at the Stockholm police, on Monday morning.
According to information in several media outlets, the affected family was not the actual target, but the explosion was directed at another person living in the vicinity. The police do not want to comment on motives and possible connections.
No one has been arrested for the crime.
