Port Vale is bottom of League One, the third division in England, but was beaten in the last round by Premier League team Sunderland.
At Stamford Bridge in London, however, that uproar was far away.
Chelsea took the lead in the second minute through Jorrel Hato, and when the final whistle blew the scoreboard read 7–0. Chelsea had six different scorers and were helped by an own goal.
Chelsea came into the game without Argentine midfielder and team captain Enzo Fernandez, who has been suspended by his club for two matches after reportedly flirting with Real Madrid about a possible transfer.
"He has crossed a line," coach Liam Rosenior explained the decision.
