Liam Delap was shown a red card as a substitute in Chelsea's League Cup match against Wolverhampton. Now he is being criticised by his own manager. It was an idiotic red card that was completely unnecessary. It was embarrassing, says Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Liam Delap was substituted in the 61st minute. Barely 20 minutes later he received his first yellow card.

"After the first yellow card, I asked him four or five times to calm down. But Liam is a player who, when he's on the pitch, has a hard time taking in what's being said around him," says Maresca.

The striker failed to keep his composure and seven minutes later the Englishman received his second yellow card.

"I have four children, and when they do something wrong, I usually punish them. I try to teach them what is right. I do the same with the players," says Maresca.

The match ended 4–3 to Chelsea.
