The yield on 10-year government bonds rose to 4.28 per cent.
The technology sector had a strong Monday. Electric car manufacturer Tesla gained 5.3 per cent, while Apple rose 2 per cent.
Chip manufacturer Broadcom continued to attract investors, with its share price rising 5.4 per cent.
Software manufacturer Autodesk increased 6.5 per cent. The rise came after an investment firm said it would try to postpone Autodesk's annual general meeting to allow new board members to be nominated.
