The British gala, which has existed since 1955, awards prizes to composers and songwriters.

She thanked for the prize with a tone and quoted some of her simpler lyrics about going out and partying.

You probably agree with me, I'm hardly Bob Dylan, she said.

In the audience, among others, Bruce Springsteen and U2 were noticed.

Despite the jokes, Charli XCX – who actually is named Charlotte Aitchison – has a solid songwriter career behind her.

Already in 2012, she got her big breakthrough as a songwriter for the Swedish Icona Pop's world hit "I love it". Later, she wrote songs for artists like Selena Gomez and Iggy Azalea. In 2014, she broke through as a solo artist with the acclaimed album "Sucker" and last year, she made a big success with the album "Brat".
