A bottle of the wedding champagne served at the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding in 1981 is to be auctioned in Denmark.

Twelve magnum bottles of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 were created for the royal wedding, which was watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world, and were adorned with labels commemorating the big day.

Now one of them is being sold. Interest is expected to be high, both from wine enthusiasts and collectors of royal items. The bottle is said to have been carefully examined before the auction.

You can absolutely drink it, says wine expert Thomas Rosendahl Andersen at the auction house Bruun Rasmussen.

The bottle of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 is expected to fetch between 500,000 and 600,000 Danish kronor, equivalent to approximately 730,000–880,000 Swedish kronor, at the auction on December 11.

The bottle's current owner, a collector who wishes to remain anonymous, acquired the bottle from a dealer in London.
