On June 13, 2023, a boat sank in the Mediterranean with over 750 migrants and refugees on board. Only 104 people survived. Now, 17 employees of the Greek coast guard are being prosecuted.

The indictment comes through lawyers for human rights organizations, following what is described as the deadliest accident in the Mediterranean.

Among them is the captain of the coast guard boat that was patrolling the area during the night of the incident. He has failed to provide assistance and has put them in danger, according to the indictment.

Also, the former head of the coast guard, a supervisor at the main rescue center in Greece, and several individuals who were on duty on June 13, 2023, are indicted.
