Cruzeiro won the match in Belo Horizonte 1-0 and thus became state champions in Minas Gerais for the first time since 2019, the BBC reports.
But the match will probably be remembered primarily for the chaos that erupted in the final seconds. Atletico goalkeeper Everson kneed Cruzeiro midfielder Christian - which sparked a huge brawl that soon involved scores of players.
Security personnel and military police had to intervene and only afterwards was the referee able to hand out red cards. In total, he sent off 23 players after the commotion.
"It's regrettable," says Atletico's former national team striker Hulk, one of the players sent off.
