Senegal has won the African Championship for the second time after a dramatic 1–0 final victory over Morocco.

Rarely seen scenes took place during the finale.

In extra time, Senegal had the ball in the net, but the referee had already blown the whistle for a Moroccan free kick in Morocco's own penalty area for a foul on Achraf Hakimi in the earlier incident.

Shortly afterwards, Morocco were awarded a penalty after the referee called for the VAR screen. Brahim Díaz went down in the penalty area after El Hadji Malick Diouf had his arms around the Real Madrid player.

Senegal national team captain Pape Thiaw then ordered his players to walk off the field in protest at the referee's decision. The players gathered on the sidelines for several minutes, and several then went to the locker room.

A few minutes later, the players returned to the pitch, partly encouraged by star player Sadio Mané, and the game was restarted with a penalty. However, Brahim Díaz missed, and the score remained 0–0 after extra time.

Early in extra time, Senegal changed course when Mané played to Pape Gueye, who scored with a great finish to make it 1–0.

Morocco had some sharp chances during extra time but failed to equalize, and the hosts were defeated on home soil.

Senegal already has a championship title, from the tournament in Cameroon in 2021.
