Hundreds of people gathered in the Larissa courthouse as the trial over the fatal 2023 train accident, which claimed 57 lives, was set to begin.
But the courtroom was not big enough. Court officials were forced to postpone the trial until April 1 due to the chaos that erupted. Angry visitors and concerned lawyers had already complained that the courtroom was not large enough for the number of relatives who wanted to be there.
The February 2023 train accident occurred when a passenger train collided with a freight train in the Tempi region of central Greece. The passenger train was traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki, and several of the victims were students.
