Molly Born, who was more than a minute behind the leaders before the lead vehicle misdirected the runners, instead won the race, finishing ahead of Carrie Ellwood and Annie Rodenfels, who thus secured the half marathon places for the World Road Championships in Copenhagen in September. The winning time was 1:09:42.

McClain finished ninth in 1:11:12 after having to run back, as did Kurgat and Hurley, who finished in twelfth and thirteenth places respectively.

Several protests were filed but rejected.
