Shortly after normal time, several players got into a fight near one of the short sides where Mannheim supporters were, reports the German newspaper Bild.
Among other things, beer mugs were thrown onto the pitch and the brawl quickly escalated to include supporters of both teams. When several Mannheim supporters then stormed the football pitch, police were sent out to repel them.
According to Bild, around 30 police officers were injured in the attack.
