Champions League Quarterfinals Preview: Key Storylines to Watch

Here are some snacks before the matches:

+ Chaos around Real

Coach Carlo Ancelotti was forced to appear in court, accused of tax fraud. At the same time, the player trio Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, and Dani Ceballos received hefty fines from Uefa for their unsportsmanlike behavior in the hot round of 16 against Atlético Madrid. All of them avoided being suspended. However, Aurélien Tchouaméni will not play in the first match.

+ Arsenal's title chance

The chance to catch up and surpass Liverpool in the Premier League is practically gone. Arsenal's only remaining opportunity to win a title is in the Champions League. Then, central defender Gabriel's injury came at the most inopportune time. He will not play anymore this season. Fans can, however, rejoice that Bukayo Saka is back.

+ Müller and Musiala

Two names that have dominated the news reporting around Bayern München in recent days. Veteran Thomas Müller, 35, will not have his contract extended and is playing his last months in the club he has belonged to since he was ten years old. Jamal Musiala tore a thigh muscle over the weekend. A hard blow for him and the club. The German national team midfielder has had a strong season behind him.

+ Svensson from start?

Dortmund's league season has so far been a failure, but last year's finalist is on the move. Two straight wins – and Daniel Svensson is back in the starting lineup after an injury. Will he get the trust against Barcelona, where the wingback will face Pedri and Lamine Yamal on the left?

+ Paris SG makes a new attempt

PSG secured another French league gold over the weekend. Nice, but not what the club is satisfied with. The construction is not complete until the CL trophy is displayed at Parc des Princes. Luis Enrique is developing the team in the right direction. Aston Villa can reach a high level, but here PSG is the clear favorite.

Tuesday:

Arsenal-Real Madrid, Bayern München-Inter (both 21.00)

Wednesday:

Barcelona-Dortmund, Paris SG-Aston Villa (both 21.00)

The returns will be played next week.

The semifinals have already been drawn. Real Madrid or Arsenal will face PSG or Aston Villa. Barcelona/Dortmund will meet Bayern München/Inter. The final will be played in München on May 31.

All matches will be broadcast on Viaplay.
