In the climate adaptation inquiry submitted to the Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) on Monday, it is proposed that property owners may need to pay for the municipalities' climate adaptation measures.
Both the Centre Party and the Green Party direct criticism at the inquiry and believe that the state should take economic responsibility for climate adaptation.
The investigator has not been given the opportunity to propose state funding for this. It's a bit skewed, says the Green Party's spokesperson Daniel Helldén.
Daniel Helldén emphasizes that it is positive that the state is investigating which coastal areas need to be protected. However, it requires the government to also allocate state funds. If the work does not get started quickly enough, there is a danger that coastal communities may need to be abandoned.
If I lived in a coastal municipality, I would be worried in this situation, he says.
The Centre Party's climate policy spokesperson Stina Larsson believes that it is good to find opportunities for property owners to co-finance climate adaptation. But the state needs to take greater economic responsibility and support the municipalities.
The government says it must not cost anything. That is to dodge the question, because this will cost, she says.
