"Children held in immigration detention are subjected to trauma, neglect, and conditions that violate basic standards of health, safety, dignity, and human rights. Children belong in schools and playgrounds, not in detention," the open letter, quoted by Variety, states.
The signatories call on the government to close the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas, where more than 2,300 children are being held in detention with their parents.
Others who signed the open letter include John Legend, Brandi Carlile, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Keke Palmer, and Susan Sarandon.
