According to information provided to the news site Euractiv, Malmström is one of those interviewed ahead of the appointment on Thursday.
At least one other former commissioner, Dutch former vice-president Frans Timmermans, is reportedly among the candidates.
The EU-funded College of Europe is headquartered in Bruges, Belgium, and trains around 500 people a year. Many students go on to top jobs in, for example, the EU's foreign service.
The school's then-principal, Federica Mogherini, who was the EU's foreign policy chief from 2014 to 2019, resigned early last winter following allegations of corruption and rigged procurement to the school's advantage.
