Israel carries out attacks in Gaza on Tuesday evening, after allegations that Hamas is supposed to have opened fire on Israeli soldiers. But neither Hamas nor Israel claims that the ceasefire is broken. The ceasefire is hanging on, says Middle East expert Anders Persson.

It is a precarious situation, in line with what the experts predicted, notes Persson.

As long as both sides say that they are committed to the ceasefire, one might say that it applies, says Anders Persson, associate professor and researcher at Linnaeus University.

Clashes and attacks have occurred repeatedly since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into force on October 10.

One can imagine that the ceasefire is limping along. Two steps forward, one step back, two steps back, one step forward.
