The trade companies' expectations for the future were somewhat strengthened in October, but are still predominantly pessimistic, shows the Trade Barometer from Swedish Trade.

A glimmer of light is that the future indicator for wholesale trade increased to the highest level in nearly a year. Above all, expectations for sales were raised, but also the view on profitability and employment was strengthened.

For the grocery trade and the specialty store trade, there are small changes compared to what it was in September.

”The view on sales is at a stable level, especially within grocery and wholesale trade, but many trading companies are still struggling with weak profitability and a dampened demand. It is clear that one is still waiting for interest rate cuts and lower inflation to have an impact”, says Sofia Larsen, CEO of Svensk Handel, in a press release.
