Sophie, which is the cat's name, was discovered on the lawn outside the building and was briefly inside the press room. After assistance from White House staff, the cat was finally reunited with its owner.
One of the journalists at the White House reports to X that Sophie had a collar and possibly also an Airtag, a kind of GPS transmitter, reports German DPA.
The area around the White House is one of the most surveilled in the world, and the Secret Service monitors all movements and entrances around the clock with the help of, among other things, cameras.
Despite this, a small child was able to sneak into the area unnoticed recently before being taken into custody by security personnel and returned to their parents, reports DPA.
