Carried away by giant waves – several dead in Tenerife

At least three people have died after being swept away by high waves on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife.

The Canary Islands have once again been hit by strong winds and powerful, high waves.

At Los Gigantes on the west side of the island, several people were swept into the water by the waves on Sunday. Three people have been confirmed dead, one is missing and one is being treated in hospital, Canarias7 and El Mundo report. Still others have been treated for minor injuries.

In early November, three people died when they were swept away by giant waves in Tenerife. As of November, 67 people had drowned on the island this year, according to Canarias7.

TT has been in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has no information about injured or deceased Swedes.
