The former national team goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson has been appointed honorary doctor at Malmö University. A surprise for the 47-year-old, who has worked for equality and better conditions for women's football players.

It feels fantastic, an honor. It was unexpected and not something I counted on, says Jönsson.

After her player career, Jönsson has, among other things, been involved in the players' union Fifpro. Today, she is a psychologist with a focus on elite athletes' mental health and works with the Players' Association, which works with Swedish player conditions.

”Caroline is almost the symbol of Malmö University and our vision. She works for equality and justice in sports, both nationally and internationally", writes Johan R Norberg, professor of sports science at Malmö University, in a press release.
