At 18:51 of overtime, Taylor Hall scored the 3-2 goal, which means that Carolina now leads the Stanley Cup quarterfinal series 2-0 in games.

"I shot and got a rebound. It was really an overtime goal," Hall told reporters after the game.

Philadelphia started the game off with a bang, making it 1–0 after 4:02 when Jamie Drysdale scored, and 2–0 just 39 seconds later when Carl Grundström backhanded the puck from behind the goal to Sean Couturier, who netted.

Carolina, the winner of the Eastern Conference, reduced the deficit midway through the first period. Nikolaj Ehlers scored, and Seth Jarvis tied the game just over halfway through the third period.
