The win also means that Alcaraz overtakes Jannik Sinner in the rankings and becomes world number one.
This is super special for me, he said directly after the win, reports BBC.
The three weeks I spent here are a privilege. I feel at home and feel the energy and love here.
Second US Open title
Alcaraz took direct command of the match and won the first set with 6–2 after strong forehand play and a lot of energy.
Sinner fought his way back into the match and the Italian was able to win the second set with 6–3.
Alcaraz did not let himself be beaten down by that and played his very best tennis in the third set of the match. The Spaniard won there with 6–1 and took the lead with 2–1 overall in sets.
The fourth set then ebbed and flowed before Alcaraz decided to find the big game, mainly through fantastic serving. The fourth set ended 6–4 and after a total of 3–1 in sets, Alcaraz can now call himself US Open champion for the second time in his career. He won his first title in 2022.
Sinner: Did my best
Runner-up Jannik Sinner congratulated his opponent after the match – and promised a comeback next year.
I did my best today. I couldn't do more. Thanks for the support, he said according to BBC and praised the audience.
Seeing a full arena already in the early matches makes this place so special. I'm very happy to be standing here on the court today – we're all trying to make it the best show. See you next year.
The final already had historic weight beforehand – never before have the same two players met in three Grand Slam finals in the same year.
I meet you more than I meet my family, Alcaraz joked about Sinner in his thank you speech.
The victory means that Alcaraz now has six Grand Slam titles in his career. Sinner has four, including two from earlier this year when he lifted the trophies in the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Corrected version: In an earlier version, incorrect number of Grand Slam titles for Jannik Sinner was stated.
