Alcaraz got a tough start when Rublev won the first set with 7–6 in tiebreak. But afterwards it loosened up considerably for the Spaniard.

The second set Alcaraz won easily with 6–3. When he then in the third set, hit the break ball to 4–3, in an impressive way, and afterwards won the set with 6–4 the matter was in practice clear.

Alcaraz had then no problems winning the remaining set and the match.

After the victory Alcaraz explained why he beat the hard-hitting Rublev:

I played intelligent and smart today, he said in the player interview on the center court.

Now Alcaraz faces the home favorite Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals. Then he will not have the audience at his back:

I will just enjoy as much as I can. Wimbledon is something special, said Alcaraz about his feelings before the match.

On Sunday, Taylor Fritz, USA, also advanced to the quarterfinals after his opponent Jordan Thompson, Australia, had to give up due to injury.

Other male players who became clear for the quarterfinals were thus Cameron Norrie, as well as Karen Khachanov, Russia.

In the women's tournament, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Russia, Laura Siegemund, Germany, Aryna Sabalenka, Belarus, and Amanda Anisimova, USA, advanced to the quarterfinals on Sunday.
