The well-known statue was placed outside the Emigrants' House in Växjö. The theft was discovered on Monday morning by Lennart Johansson, CEO of Kulturparken Småland.
"It's very tragic. The statue means a lot to Växjö and everyone should have a statue of Carl Milles," he tells the newspaper.
The statue is a bronze figure from 1940 and depicts seven emigrants sitting on the back of a large fish. The sculpture symbolizes Swedish emigration to America.
The theft has been reported to the police, according to Smålandsposten.
