The plane skidded off the runway at Miami International Airport, the FAA said.
According to Rosie Cordero-Stutz, the sheriff of Miami-Dade, at least five people have died. However, she said there was no further danger to the public.
The plane is on what looks like a grassy slope next to a road inside the airport area and has caught fire.
According to the Miami Fire Department, the plane hit a number of cars before ending up on the grassy slope.
The plane, a Boeing 767, came from Puerto Rico and was carrying goods for Amazon, according to CNN.
All runways at the airport are closed, the television channel reports.
