Car inspector charged with aggravated bribery

An inspection technician in Växjö is being charged with approving cars with defects in exchange for money, local media reports.

On 99 occasions, the man accepted money to certify that the vehicles were in approved condition, according to the indictment, which concerns aggravated bribery and aggravated false statements.

It was said to have been a few hundred kronor on each occasion and a total of at least 43,000 kronor, according to the prosecutor. The man, who is in his 25s, has admitted to the crime.

Ten customers are also charged with bribery, in some cases aggravated bribery. Swish lists are included in the evidence. All customers deny any wrongdoing.
