Four young people died when a vehicle drove into a recreational center outside Springfield, in the American state of Illinois, on Monday afternoon local time.
Two of the deceased were 7 years old, one 8 years old and one 18 years old.
Six other children were taken to hospital, for one of them the condition is described as critical.
The incident, where the car drove into the building and came out the other side, is not believed to have been intentional, according to the authorities. The driver was assessed as uninjured but was taken to hospital where, among other things, it will be determined whether he was under the influence at the time.
