In the last group match of the African World Championship qualifying, the small island nation, which has just under 600,000 inhabitants, took its seventh victory in the qualifying when group bottom Eswatini was defeated with 3–0.
Cameroon, which Cape Verde defeated in September, finishes second in the group after 0–0 against Angola. Cameroon has a small chance of being one of the four best seconds that go to the intercontinental qualifying for a place in the World Championship in Canada, USA and Mexico next year.
Cape Verde is the second smallest nation to go to a World Championship final, writes the news agency NTB. Iceland, with 400,000 inhabitants, participated in the World Championship in 2018.
In addition to Cape Verde, Jordan and Uzbekistan are also World Championship debutants.
