During the first six months of this year, Danish customs have stopped more than a ton of cannabis from being smuggled into the country. That's three times more than during the same period in 2024.

"When the number of finds triples in one year, it shows that more and more people are unfortunately trying to smuggle illegal cannabis across the border," says Tax Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen (S) in a press release.

Cannabis has been found on land, in international mail, at sea and among air travelers. The seizure figure also includes cannabis found in the Copenhagen area, but the most common smuggling method is via vehicles from the south – most cannabis has been found in Jutland.

Cannabis is illegal in Denmark with the exception of medical use, when it is permitted for use by, for example, pain patients who have been prescribed it.
