The current trip had left Stockholm via Trosa and was due to continue south when it ran aground at 5 pm on Tuesday. Divers were called in to examine the hull.

The shipping company has deemed it safe to carry out its own evacuation. They have requisitioned some kind of boat to take people ashore in Trosa, but we are on standby if needed, says Anders Larsson, rescue leader at the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre on Tuesday evening.

The ship Juno was built in 1874 and operates on the Göta Canal, among other things.

No one has been injured.
