The result means that Sweden's hopes of a quarter-final are alive - all that is needed now is a victory against Slovakia in the match on Tuesday.

After losses to Canada, the Czech Republic and Norway, Sweden is fifth in Group B and could at best finish third. To finish that high, the Tre Kronor will need help from the Czech Republic and Denmark in their matches against Norway.

Despite the wide scoreline, victory was hard to come by for clear group winner Canada against Slovakia. It wasn't until the third period that the scoring began to pick up, and the team went from 1–1 to 5–1 in seven minutes.

Also on Sunday, Finland beat Austria and Latvia defeated Great Britain - the British have thus completed their campaign in the A-World Cup and will have to regroup in the B-World Cup after a final match on Monday.
