Culture Minister Marc Miller has introduced a bill that, if passed, would restrict access to social media for anyone under the age of 16, reports public broadcaster CBC.
"We have failed our children. Enough is enough. We need basic protections so that all children in this country can feel safe on the platforms they use every day," he said in parliament.
Previously, countries such as Australia, France and Malaysia have introduced or seen parliaments vote for similar measures.
Last fall, Sweden launched an inquiry into age limits on social media.
