Canada Must Retrieve Luggage in Sweden After World Championship Exit

Canada's stars seemed secure of a place in Saturday's World Championship semifinal. They travelled to Danish Herning without bringing their luggage from the hotel in Stockholm. They came with necessities, says Swede Andreas Lilja, assistant coach in Denmark who won the quarterfinal.

Canada won the group in Stockholm where Tre Kronor finished second, but were forced to travel to Danish Herning because the ice hockey World Championship's host nations were ensured to get to play a potential quarterfinal at home.

The trip ended with Denmark – fourth in their group – knocking out Canada with 2–1. Now the Canadians get to go back to Stockholm to pick up their luggage.

They haven't even checked out from their hotel in Stockholm. They took it for granted that they would win. Yeah, they came with overnight bags, says Swede Andreas Lilja, to Aftonbladet.

The national team captain in Denmark is countryman Mikael Gath.

It's a bomb, absolutely. I said before the match that we win maybe one out of a hundred, so it's about finding that match and we do. We play at our absolute highest level, says the Swede to Expressen.

Now the nation's first World Championship semifinal awaits – where the Danes will face Switzerland in Stockholm. Sweden meets the USA in the other semi. Even Sunday's medal matches will be played in Avicii arena.
