The big favorite Canada entered the men's hockey tournament at the Olympics in Italy - with a bang. Canada beat the Czech Republic 5-0.

San Jose's Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring in the first period and the result was never in doubt.

The Czechs had nothing to offer the Canadians, who were ultimately able to win by five goals.

Superstar Connor McDavid (Edmonton), considered by many to be the best ice hockey player in the world, recorded three assists. Veteran superstar Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh) recorded two.

Later in the evening, the USA will also enter the tournament. The Americans are the second favorite to take home the gold. They will face Latvia.

Sweden defeated the home nation Italy 5–2 in the opening match.
