This has become clear since the country's public service broadcaster CBC/Radio Canada became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union, EBU, where it had previously only been an "associate member".
EBU Director General Noel Curran says that membership means that more can be done together regarding, for example, the responsibility of platforms and "the resilience that public service broadcasters need to build for the future."
"Canada's voice in this community makes us stronger," he says in a press release.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has sought to strengthen Canada's ties to Europe and in last year's budget raised the idea of joining Eurovision, according to the BBC.
Despite its membership, it is not clear whether the country will participate in the music competition.
