The bridge - named after Canadian hockey legend Gordie Howe - runs between Detroit, the United States, and Windsor, Canada.
An opening ceremony was to be held later this week, but after the US recently threatened to impose 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods, the bridge party seems to be getting off the ground.
“In light of the trade measures that the United States threatened earlier this week, it would be inappropriate to hold a celebratory event between the two countries,” said Jenna Ghassabeh, a spokeswoman for the Canadian minister of infrastructure, in a statement.
Canada is now planning to hold its own ceremony instead.
