Three people have been arrested in Canada, suspected of trying to establish an anti-government militia, according to federal police in a statement.
This involves "ideologically motivated violent extremism", according to the police. They are suspected of having taken "concrete measures" to be able to carry out "terrorist activities".
They are alleged to have, among other things, participated in military training with illegal firearms. They are suspected of various firearms offenses, including possession of explosives. A fourth suspect in the case is also accused of several firearms offenses.
Two of the suspects are employed by Canada's defense forces, confirmed by the country's defense department.
The police found 16 explosive devices, weapons and a large quantity of ammunition in house searches conducted in Quebec City in January 2024. The investigation into the group began in March 2023.
