The small modular reactor is to have a capacity of 300 megawatt, sufficient to supply 300,000 households with electricity, according to CBC News.

The reactor is to be built near the existing nuclear power plant Darlington and is intended to be the first of four, to meet an increased energy demand in the province. The four mini reactors are estimated to cost the equivalent of 145 billion kronor.

Only a small part of the cost, five percent, goes to American companies, in this case GE-Hitachi, which creates the actual model BWRX-300. Ontario will be the first in the world with the new reactor model when the first is completed in 2029, if everything goes as planned.
