When the Norwegian women's handball team beat Montenegro 32–23 in the World Cup quarter-finals, they were supported by a large number of Bodø/Glimt fans in the stands in Dortmund. It's great when football fans come and watch handball. It felt like home, says Veronica Egebakken Kristiansen to Viaplay.

The Norwegian football team is in town to face Borussia Dortmund in the Men's Champions League on Wednesday, but many of the team's supporters took the opportunity to visit the Westfalenhalle across the street the day before.

When the Norwegian women's handball team sang the national anthem "Ja, vi elsker dette landet" before the World Cup quarter-final against Montenegro, it was done with big smiles.

It's almost like you can say you become a Glimt supporter after this," says superstar Henny Reistad to Viaplay.

The supporters were heard throughout the match – occasionally with chants dedicated to the football team.

I may have played in front of a larger audience, but the atmosphere here was quite unique, says Reistad.

Norway didn't really need the extra support from the stands to clean up Montenegro. The four-time world champion (most recently in 2021) led 19–11 after the first half and eventually won 32–23.

Home nation Germany has also advanced to the World Cup semi-finals – for the first time in 18 years. The Germans won against Brazil 30–23 in their quarter-final.

On Friday, the winner of the match between Denmark and France awaits, who meet on Wednesday. If they win there too, the Germans will be in their first World Cup final since 1993 – when Germany won gold. Norway will face the winner of the quarter-final between the Netherlands and Hungary.

The other two quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches will be played in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
