The initiative comes from both the Swedish and Danish fishing industries, which have seen how fish stocks are affected by eutrophication, oxygen deficiency and climate change.

The new technology will provide better opportunities to document activities on board and how the catch is handled.

"Camera surveillance also creates new opportunities to develop collaboration between the fishing industry, authorities and research," says Anna-Karin Trixe, CEO of Vi svenska fiskare.

According to the organization, the method is already used in Scotland and the North Sea, where several Swedish vessels fish.
