I started crying when I saw her walking with the leg prosthesis. It was a dream come true, says Sheema Khan, head of the animal shelter in Karachi that has taken care of Cammie, to AFP.
Cammie's leg was cut off by a landowner as punishment for entering his field to look for food. But a video of the injured camel, which spread on social media, prompted the Pakistani government to intervene and she was transported to the animal shelter.
After treating the wound and initial rehabilitation, the animal shelter arranged a leg prosthesis.
We do not force her to walk. When we have attached the leg prosthesis, we wait for 15 to 20 minutes. Then she gets up on her own and walks slowly, says veterinarian Baba Hussein.
