Cam Abbott takes over at Färjestad. The Canadian is being hired from the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes organization. “There’s a lot of work to do,” he tells the SHL team’s website.

Club legend Jörgen Jönsson was fired on Friday, and now SHL club Färjestad is bringing in Cam Abbott, who previously coached Rögle.

Färjestad is renting the Canadian coach for the rest of the season.

"He has a current contract with the Carolina Hurricanes organization, so we are renting him for the rest of this season. There is hope from both sides to extend this collaboration if everything feels good. That said, the focus is further in the future," says sports director Rickard Wallin on the club's website.

"Our immediate focus is here and now."

Abbott said: "I am excited and inspired by the assignment. It is definitely a challenge, with a lot of work to be done that must be done with optimism, cohesion and brotherhood in the locker room."

Färjestad is ninth in the SHL after 35 rounds and has lost the last five games.

The plan is for the 42-year-old to lead training on Wednesday.
