Seventeen women in their 90s were contacted in early summer by fraudsters claiming to be from the “Water Authority.” Now, ten people have been convicted of involvement in the fraud.

The vulnerable women in Skåne and Blekinge were visited by people who claimed to be water inspectors from the fictitious authority. During the home visits, several were robbed of valuables, bank cards and codes.

The longest sentence will be given to the principal, who is sentenced to five and a half years in prison, Helsingborg District Court writes in a press release .

Councilor Anja Nordfeldt thinks that the crime appears to be particularly serious because it is targeted at the elderly who have difficulty defending themselves.
