It has been speculated for a long time that Calle Järnkrok would return home to Brynäs, and on Monday morning Expressen revealed that it was done.
Now the Gävle club has also confirmed the signing.
"It feels absolutely fantastic to welcome another one of our most successful players back home to Brynäs. Calle comes home motivated and with his enormous winning mentality he will be a strong and important contributor to our ambition to establish ourselves as a top team in the SHL," says sports director Johan Alcén.
In recent seasons, Brynäs has brought home star names from the NHL in Jakob Silfverberg, Niklas Bäckström (who, however, has injury problems) and now 34-year-old Järnkrok, who most recently came from the big club Toronto.
During his years in the NHL, he has also played for Nashville, Seattle and Calgary. In 774 NHL games, Järnkrok scored 316 points (143 goals + 173 assists).
Järnkrok has signed a three-year contract with Brynäs, which he left in 2013. Calle Järnkrok won the Swedish Championship gold medal with Brynäs in 2012 and has a World Championship gold medal with Tre Kronor in 2013.
"I'm very happy to be back in Brynäs and it feels fantastic that it's now finished. Now I'm looking forward to getting started, meeting the team and playing in front of all the Brynäs fans in the stands again. It's something I've been looking forward to," says Calle Järnkrok.
The SHL starts on September 19th.
