According to NBC4, the game developer and business executive died on Sunday while driving his Ferrari north of Los Angeles.
Zampella was best known for co-creating the "Call of Duty" series and for founding Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the "Titanfall", "Apex Legends" and "Star Wars Jedi" games.
Zampella began his career in the 1990s designing first-person shooters. In 2002, he founded the studio Infinity Ward, which was later acquired by Activision. Zampella left Activision under controversial terms and founded Respawn in 2010, which was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017.
